Quick Tips When Using Final Cut Pro

Below are quick Final Cut Pro tips for making a video. When you just start out using Final Cut Pro, it can be daunting, however, these tips will get you started making some great movies.

1. If you are interested in importing footage from iMovie, first you need to save your iMovie project. After that, highlight the project in the Project Library. Next, click on Share - Export Final Cut XML; here you can select where you wish to save the file. From Final Cut, click on FILE - IMPORT - FCP XML from iMovie.

2. Occasionally you will need to render files that you import. You may see a red bar appear at the top of your Timeline. From your Timeline, you will need to select IN and OUT and then Sequence - Render, Render All, or Render Only. To know what need to be rendered (video or audio), preview in the Canvas.

3. If you want to include an image, just go to File - Import - Files and there are different ways you can add it: Insert with transition, Insert, Overwrite with transition, Overwrite, Replace, Fit to Fill, or Superimpose.

4. If you want to adjust volume levels, all you need to do is click the mountain looking button at the bottom left hand corner of the Time line. When you do that, lines will appear through the middle of all the bars. Drag the line up or down to adjust the volume.

5. To change the size of the items in your Timeline, go to the bottom left hand corner and click the second button to the right (4 bars). To add a video or audio line, just right click on the left hand side of the Timeline, and Add Track. You also have to option to delete a track or reset a panel.

6. As a final point, keep track of what you mute, and lock and unlock!
